Talking to my friends, I think this is a common midlife issue. You spend most of your life in one career and now you would love to transition into doing something else, but how? How do you start a second career without investing a lot of money and time in going back to school? This is something I am grappling with. I have had a really good career in sales. I can't complain but I would like to pivot. Here are some options for making a career change:
I can quit my job and go back to school.
I can look for an online program.
I can self learn as much as possible through online and books.
I can request a special project at work that would give me experience in the direction I want to move.
I can rewrite my resume to focus on my transferable skills to get into a new line of work.
I have chosen to ask for a special project at work while also learning as much as possible through online courses, reading books and getting a mentor. I am excited about where this path may lead.
