Lately I have been frustrated with myself for continuing to put off doing things that will move me closer to my goals. So on Sunday, I put together a plan to move me towards accomplishing my health goals, my relationship goals, my career development goals and my blogging/cartooning goals. I kept it simple. I created an excel spreadsheet that has the days of the weeks listed down the left hand column and I listed the categories ( health, relationships, career, blogging/cartooning) across the top. Then I added something in each category throughout the week. This morning I had 6:30am spin class listed under the health goals. My alarm clock went off at 5:30am and completely startled me out of sleep. I did not want to get out of bed. I was still tired and it was raining outside. Yes, rain in May! But I thought about my plan and I immediately knew that if I did not go, I would be disappointed in myself later today. So I got out of bed, got dressed and drove in the rain to the gym. It turns out, the class was incredibly fun. The instructor encouraged us to sing along to the songs. It turned out to be a great way to start my day!
What I learned is that it is just as important, actually more important to show up for yourself. By keeping my word to myself, I felt great. It set the tone for the rest of the day. That made it worth getting out of bed early today.
